Pulau Besar is an island off the coast of Malacca, Malaysia, and is located approximately 13 km from the mainland. It is not the one in Johor. Most modern city people won't believe the stories that people have to say for that Island.
Pulau Besar looks like a pregnant lady lying on her back. The locals around Pulau Besar revere the island and attribute it to many legends. It has also become a place of pilgrimage to a large number of Indian Muslims in Malaysia. Many pilgrims come to Pulau Besar to visit a mausoleum believed to be of a Wali, Sultan Ariffin Syeikh Ismail Waliallah. There are also numerous other graves visited by pilgrims such as that of Datok Janggut, Datuk Puteh and Nenek Kebayan. The group of 7 graves called Makam Tujuh Beradik were torn down by the state religious department during the 90's when the state government initiated construction work to build a hotel and golf course on the island. The resort operated for a few years before it eventually closed.
At the highest point on the island exist a large boulder that is split down the middle. It is named "Batu Belah" and is a favourite destination for local pilgrims. There also exists a cave which is said to be the place of meditation for another Wali named Yusof. Near this cave, it is claimed one can see the footprint of the Wali on a boulder. In 1997 the Malaysian government labeled such practices as deviant and tore down many buildings that were erected around the mausoleum. This caused an uproar in the Indian Muslim communities who frequently visited Pulau Besar. By 2006, a new hall had been built using private funds from many Indian Muslim businessmen.
The island is considered a holy place by local believers. Visitors are advised to abstain from consuming pork & alcohol on the eve of the day of visit and throughout their stay there. They are also to be in their best behavior while on the island. . Accommodation is available at the chalets available on the island, namely Chandek Kura Hotel. Many visitors however pitch tents along the coast. Food is easily available from the few stalls there. Free food and drinks are also available from a canteen next to the Wakaf Makam Tujuh Beradik.

The Most Mysterious Island Of Asia
Pulau Baser is not just a Spiritual Island, but also has great programs for tourists. It has stories and historic monuments. However it is not considered a party place. We offer few exclusive program in English organized by the people living in Pulau Besar. Such as day walking tours, overnight trip, BBQ dinner, story telling around the bone fire etc. We can organize this program for any number of visitors starting from 1. All money earned from this program is being used to donate for people living on the island. Such as to give breakfast, help build a shop, medicine, cloths etc.
Below you will find some of our English Guided Tours:
You will be picked up from your accommodation within Melacca city by car/taxi/bus provided by us to the Jetty. Depending on the number of guest you will be transported to the island by speedboat or ferry. Once you arrive you will be picked up by one of our representative at the island jetty and take individual/group to the meeting point for briefing. During the tour we will provide you with water to carry along. We start will visit of the museum and the tombs of the spiritual leaders of the Island. Followed by visit to cave Younus. Following that we will take rest in a shade to explain next bit of the tour. Light snacks will be provided at the rest place. We will pass by the hotel that was closed for years. Visit to the Bunian well, Bunian Island & Bunian Lake. Bunian believed to be unseen people who cannot harm in anyway but we can hear if they choose for us to hear them. After that we will head back to same place through the golf course, which is also not in operation. The departure from the Jetty will be at 17:30. Once you arrive at the main land, our car/taxi/bus will take back to your hotel.
Day Tour (09:30 - 18:30)
What is will provide:
Water during the tour, light lunch, mosquito patch, transport from your hotel & back.
Note:

Wear comfortable cloths and comfortable shoes. Sometime you may have to wet your feet.

Wear decent cloths preferably covering until your ankle, as there are insects or wild plants that may cause cuts or injury.

Anyone cannot continue the tour can stop during the rest time.

Use of toilets must be done before the tour, as it is not allowed to use the jungle for toilet. In case of emergency sea can be used.

Overnight Camping (Day 1: 09:30 - Day 2: 14:00)
You will be picked up from your accommodation within Melacca city by car/taxi/bus provided by us to the Jetty. Dinner:
After sunset we will escort you to the BBQ place where we will have fresh food grilled and cooked vegetable & rice. Menu can differ based on size of group. BBQ is provided only for group of 8 pax onwards. Group less then 8 will have proper dinner in the local restaurant.
After dinner you can sit by bonfire at the beach and smoke leaves tobacco relax by the sound of the sea. Until you fall a sleep by the beach or in your tent.
Morning:
08:00 – 10:00 you will have Malaysian breakfast. After which you can take a swim, relax by the beach.
At 11:30 we will proceed to the jetty for 12:00 ferry to the main land. Once you arrive at the mainland our transport will take you back to your hotel.

Island Hoping (09:30 - 18:30)
You will be picked up from your accommodation within Melacca city by car/taxi/bus provided by us to the Jetty. Depending on the number of guest you will be transported to the island by speedboat or ferry. Once you arrive you will be picked up by one of our representative at the island jetty and take individual/group to the meeting point for briefing. During the tour we will provide you with water to carry along. We start will visit of the museum and the tombs of the spiritual teachers of the Island. After that we board a speedboat from the beach or jetty and proceed to all the nearest islands. There are about 4 additional islands we can visit. We will provide BBQ lunch or regular lunch in one of the island. After lunch we head back to the mainland where your transfer will take you back to your hotel.
